The Whisky Experience
Do you have a deep seeded desire to see the remote Highlands of Scotland? Are you enthralled with Celtic Lore? Are you a true Whisky lover?
If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions then this package is for you. Five days at Drumchork Estate, on the rugged North West Coast of Scotland.
Loch Ewe Distillery is the smallest distillery in Scotland. Sited on Drumchork Estate in Wester Ross, it is the only location in the world where you can indulge your passion to make Scotch whisky. This experience relives the romance of making Uisge Beatha in a cave / forest whilst hiding from the 'gauger' (tax man). You will learn how to distill your whisky using 18th century methods. You will learn from one of the worlds foremost whisky authorities how to brew, ferment, distill and cask your own whisky. John Clotworthy and Frances Oates own the only surviving part of the ancient 'Lands of Drumchork' in the remote area of Aultbea in Wester Ross. John was named as 'Malt Whisky Ambassador for Scotland' after a worldwide search sponsored by Isle of Jury was conducted to find the most knowledgeable person in the world of whisky.
The Uisge Beatha Lounge at Drumchork Lodge boasts over 700 single malts. Whisky tastings are conducted daily as are whisky dinners conducted by John. Drumchork Lodge Hotel was named the “Best Malt Whisky Hotel in the World” in March 2006 by the 'Icons of Whisky during their worldwide search.
Drumchork Estate is located on the most scenic route in Europe. Travel on the Road of Destitution which the poor people walked during the highland clearances. Also in the area, you can partake of great mountaineering, golf, fishing, diving, low level walking, perfume making and the magnificent Inverewe Gardens.
The package includes:
5 days lodging with breakfast & dinner, learning the fine art of whisky making,
Excursion to the caves where previous illicit distilling is apparent, tasting with the Drumchork Whisky panel,
UK duty and tax, distilling certificate and 5 litre cask of Uisge Beatha to take home and mature in your own home or leave at Loch Ewe to mature into Scotch.
If you’re not Scottish by birth by the end of this experience you will certainly be Scottish at heart!
